Terms of service
Effective 18 October 2026
These terms are an agreement between you and Influpert LLC (“we”, “us”),
the company that makes Mahfouz. They cover the Mahfouz desktop app, the web
app at web.mahfouz.app, pages published with Mahfouz
(at p.mahfouz.app), the plugin registry and this website, mahfouz.app. By installing
or using any of them, you agree to these terms and to the privacy
policy. If you use Mahfouz for an organization, you agree for
that organization too.
The short version
- Your notes are yours. We claim no rights to them, except what we need to show a page you choose to publish.
- Mahfouz is free. You may use it at home and at work.
- The app is proprietary software. Don’t copy it, resell it or take it apart.
- Services you connect, such as GitHub or an AI provider, have their own terms, and you’re responsible for how you use them.
- Don’t publish anything illegal or harmful. We can take a published page down.
- Mahfouz comes as it is, without a warranty.
The rest of this page is the full version, and it’s the one that applies.
Using the app
We give you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to install and use Mahfouz on devices you own or control, for any lawful purpose, including at work. The licence lasts until you or we end it.
You may not, and may not help anyone else to:
- copy, sell, rent, sublicense or redistribute Mahfouz, except to share the official download link;
- decompile, reverse engineer or disassemble it, except where the law allows you to despite this term;
- remove or change any copyright, trademark or licence notice;
- get around a limit the app or web.mahfouz.app sets, such as a rate limit or a restriction on publishing;
- use Mahfouz to break the law or to harm someone else’s systems.
Mahfouz includes open-source components. Each is covered by its own licence, listed on Acknowledgements, and nothing in these terms limits your rights under those licences.
We own Mahfouz and its name and logo. These terms give you no right to use them, except to refer to Mahfouz accurately.
Mahfouz is free today. If we ever charge for something, we’ll say so before it applies to you, and what you already have keeps working as the terms said when you got it.
Your content
Your notes, attachments, settings and history (“your content”) belong to you. They live in folders and git repositories you control. We don’t get a copy, except in the cases the privacy policy lists.
When you publish a note, you give us a worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, copy, render and show that note and its images, to anyone with the link, for as long as it stays published. The licence ends when you unpublish it. You confirm you have the right to publish what you publish.
You’re responsible for your content and for keeping your own backups. A Git remote is a good backup; Mahfouz isn’t one.
web.mahfouz.app and published pages
To use web.mahfouz.app with a GitHub vault, or to publish, you sign in with GitHub. You must have a GitHub account in good standing and follow GitHub’s terms. You’re responsible for what happens under your sign-in.
We run web.mahfouz.app, Mahfouz’s server and published pages on a best-effort basis. We may change them, limit them, or stop offering them. If we plan to stop a service, we’ll give notice here and in the changelog first, when we can.
Acceptable use
Don’t use Mahfouz, web.mahfouz.app or a published page to publish, store or send anything that:
- breaks the law, or infringes someone’s copyright, trademark, privacy or other rights;
- sexually exploits or endangers children;
- harasses, threatens or incites violence against a person or a group;
- is malware, phishing, a scam, or spam;
- shares someone’s personal information without their permission;
- tries to break, overload or probe web.mahfouz.app or Mahfouz’s server, except as our security policy allows.
We may remove or disable a published page, or end a sign-in, that we believe breaks these rules, and we may report it to the authorities where the law requires. Where we can, and where it’s safe, we’ll tell you why.
To report a published page, use Report this page at the bottom of it, or open a page report.
Copyright complaints
If you believe a published page infringes your copyright, email legal@influpert.com with: the page’s link; the work you say it infringes; your name and contact details; a statement that you believe in good faith the use isn’t authorized; and a statement, under penalty of perjury, that your notice is accurate and that you’re the owner or allowed to act for them. If we remove a page because of a complaint, its owner may send a counter-notice to the same address. We end the access of anyone who infringes repeatedly.
Services you connect
Mahfouz works with services we don’t run: GitHub and other Git hosts, AI providers such as Anthropic, OpenAI and OpenRouter, external agents such as Claude Code or Codex, Google Fonts, and plugin hosts. When you connect one, your use of it is between you and that service, under its terms. You’re responsible for any API keys you add and for what their use costs. We aren’t responsible for those services, for what they do with what you send them, or for what an AI writes.
Plugins
Plugins add features to Mahfouz, and most are made by other people. A plugin runs inside the app and can read and change the vaults you open. Being listed in a registry, including on Plugins, isn’t a security review or an endorsement. Install only plugins you trust. A plugin may ask you to accept its own terms, which are between you and its author. See the plugin registry policy.
Feedback
If you send feedback, it becomes a public GitHub issue. You let us use your ideas and suggestions freely, without owing you anything.
Age
You must be at least 13, and old enough to agree to these terms where you live, or have a parent or guardian agree for you.
No warranty
Mahfouz, web.mahfouz.app, published pages, the plugin registry and this website are provided “as is” and “as available”. To the fullest extent the law allows, we disclaim all warranties, express or implied, including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, non-infringement, and that Mahfouz will be error-free, secure or always available, or that it won’t lose data.
Limits on our liability
To the fullest extent the law allows, Influpert LLC isn’t liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for lost data, profits or revenue, arising from your use of Mahfouz or these terms, even if we were told they might happen. Our total liability for any claim about Mahfouz or these terms is limited to US$50.
Some places don’t allow some of these limits. Where that’s so, they apply only as far as the law allows, and nothing in these terms limits rights you have as a consumer that can’t be waived.
Indemnity
If someone makes a claim against us because of content you published, or because you broke these terms or the law, you’ll cover our reasonable costs of that claim, including legal fees, as far as the law allows.
Ending these terms
You can stop using Mahfouz at any time: delete the app, sign out of web.mahfouz.app and unpublish your pages. We may end your licence, or your access to web.mahfouz.app, if you break these terms. Your notes stay yours either way; they’re files on your computer and in your own repositories. The sections on your content, warranties, liability, indemnity and the law that applies continue after these terms end.
The law that applies
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Delaware, USA, without regard to its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute about them goes to the state or federal courts in Delaware, and you and we consent to those courts. If you’re a consumer living elsewhere, you also keep the protection of the mandatory laws of where you live, and may bring a claim in your local courts.
Changes to these terms
We may change these terms. We’ll post the new version here with a new effective date, and note any significant change in the changelog. If you keep using Mahfouz after a change takes effect, you accept the new terms.
Everything else
These terms, with the privacy policy, are the whole agreement between you and us about Mahfouz. If a court finds part of them unenforceable, the rest still applies. If we don’t enforce a term, we haven’t waived it. You may not transfer these terms; we may transfer them to a company that takes over Mahfouz.
